Yogyakarta, September 10, 2026 — The Faculty of Pharmacy at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) hosted a visit from a team from PT Cosmax Indonesia on Thursday (September 10) to strengthen research collaboration in the fields of bioinformatics and network pharmacology. The meeting was part of the ongoing research development agenda titled “Bioinformatics and Network Pharmacology Study of Camellia sinensis and Melaleuca cajuputi Leaf Extracts: Metabolite Profiling, Molecular Target Prediction, Molecular Docking, and Molecular Dynamics.”
The event began with a discussion on the process and progress of the collaborative research currently being conducted by the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy in partnership with PT Cosmax Indonesia. The discussion provided an opportunity for both parties to evaluate the research’s progress and discuss the use of computational approaches to support research on natural products.
From the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy, the event was attended by the Head of the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory, Dr. apt. Hilda Ismail, M.Si., along with apt. Eka Noviana, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr. apt. Soni Siswanto, M.Biomed., apt. Navista Sri Octa Ujiantari, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. rer. nat. apt. Raisatun Nisa Sugiyanto, M.Sc. The presence of these faculty members further enriched the discussion from academic and research perspectives, particularly regarding the integration of chemical and computational approaches in the study of natural products.
Meanwhile, PT Cosmax Indonesia was represented by Mr. Youngkwan Cho (RNI General Manager), Anastasia Noeng (Raw Materials Section Leader), Nadiah Tri Nurkhairunnisah (Raw Materials Researcher), and Haura Aqila Fadiyah (Junior Raw Materials Researcher). The involvement of the PT Cosmax Indonesia team reflects the industry’s commitment to supporting research relevant to the needs and development of raw materials and product innovation.

In addition to holding discussions, the PT Cosmax Indonesia team also had the opportunity to visit the Computational Chemistry Laboratory at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, UGM. This visit provided the industry team with the opportunity to see the research support facilities firsthand and opened up opportunities for the development of more integrated collaborative research activities that bridge academic capabilities and industry needs.
This collaborative research utilizes bioinformatics and network pharmacology approaches to investigate the potential of Camellia sinensis and Melaleuca cajuputi, including through metabolite profiling, molecular target prediction, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics. These computational approaches are expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the potential of natural compounds and their interactions with molecular targets.
The collaboration between the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy and PT Cosmax Indonesia is an example of synergy between higher education institutions and industry in promoting research based on natural ingredients. Through this collaboration, the research findings are expected not only to advance scientific knowledge but also to address industry needs and foster innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.
This initiative also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being through support for research in the fields of health and pharmacy, as well as SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure through the strengthening of collaboration in research, innovation, and the utilization of research infrastructure.
