Yogyakarta, June 1, 2026 – Students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) have once again brought honor to UGM’s Faculty of Pharmacy by winning second place in the Pharmaland 2026 National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTI). This impressive achievement was earned by the “CuraNano” team, led by Fauzia Amrina Rosyada, with members Al Zazira Zhell Azyza Sahaboena and Ika Pratiwi Nurprayitnawati. The competition was organized nationally by the Student Association of the Pharmacy Program, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA), and took place from February through May 2026.
This year, Pharmaland is presenting a theme titled “Herbal Product Innovation for Health and Beauty,” through which it aims to serve as a platform for diploma and undergraduate students from across Indonesia to develop their critical, innovative, and scientific thinking skills. In addition, Pharmaland is expected to serve as a starting point for participants to design innovations based on natural ingredients through a comprehensive scientific approach.
The CuraNano team’s journey involved a series of strict selection rounds. In the initial stage, the team prepared a full paper in the form of a literature review, which was submitted on April 15, 2026. The paper contained a comprehensive analysis ranging from preformulation and formulation studies to the packaging design of an innovative herbal product. After passing the manuscript evaluation stage, which assessed the paper’s originality, creativity, relevance, writing structure, and the timeliness of sources, the CuraNano team was selected as one of the top seven teams eligible to advance to the Grand Final round.
In the final round, which was held in person at the UNISMA Faculty of Medicine on May 10, 2026, the CuraNano team successfully impressed the panel of judges. This victory was achieved thanks to the team’s excellence in integrating aspects of preformulation, formulation, selection of herbal active ingredients, and packaging design, as well as their ability to present the results of their study systematically and scientifically during the discussion session.
The CuraNano team’s success not only demonstrates the students’ ability to produce innovations but also reflects their strong spirit of collaboration and creativity. Through this achievement, it is hoped that it will serve as motivation for all students in the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy to continue developing their research and scientific writing skills, as well as to actively participate in various academic events at the national and international levels.
This herbal innovation is also a tangible example of the contribution made by students at the UGM Faculty of Pharmacy toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The concept of these herbal products is directly aligned with SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being, as students strive to contribute to the development of herbal formulations that have the potential to improve public health and quality of life. Furthermore, the innovations in the formulation and packaging design stages of this product also reflect the implementation of SDG 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as they involve designing innovations based on natural ingredients through a comprehensive scientific approach.
