Sleman, September 13, 2025 – Pharmacy Profession students from the Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a community service activity in the form of health education with the theme “Hypertension: Recognize and Prevent It.” The activity was held during the meeting of the women’s association of RT 06 and the combined women’s association of RW 06, which took place at Al Ishlah Mosque, Manggung, Catur Tunggal.
The activity began with blood pressure checks by the students, which the residents enthusiastically participated in. After that, the event continued with a warm welcome from the head of RT 16, Mrs. Farida Isniastuti, S.E., and a briefing from Dr. apt. Indah Purwantini, M.Si., as the supervising lecturer. She said that the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM really hopes that the community around the campus can feel the positive impact of the university, not only in the academic field, but also in improving the quality of life of the residents. This is a form of UGM’s commitment to bring direct benefits to the community around the campus, so that the relationship between the university and the environment can be strengthened.
Through this activity, students conveyed information about hypertension, ranging from the introduction of risk factors, symptoms, to prevention methods through a healthy lifestyle. The education was conducted interactively so that the participants, especially the mothers of Manggung residents, could understand and discuss practical steps that can be applied in their daily lives to reduce the risk of hypertension.
The community was very enthusiastic about this activity. This was evident from the many questions asked by participants regarding the symptoms of hypertension, the use of medication, and daily blood pressure management. This enthusiasm reflects the high level of concern among residents about health and their desire to acquire knowledge that can be put into practice immediately.
In addition to providing direct benefits to the community, this activity is also in line with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes the importance of ensuring healthy lives and supporting well-being for all people of all ages. This hypertension prevention education effort is expected to contribute to the sustainable improvement of the community’s health quality.
