Yogyakarta, August 17, 2025 – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a memorial pilgrimage to honor and pay tribute to the predecessors who made significant contributions to the faculty’s development. The event, which took place from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB, was part of the 79th Anniversary (Dies Natalis) celebrations of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. This cemetery visit also coincides with the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2025. The pilgrimage was conducted at four locations: Sawitsari Cemetery (Sleman), Karangkajen Cemetery, Sewu Cemetery (Pajangan), and the Sompok Family Cemetery (Imogiri).
The activity was aimed at remembering, offering prayers, and reflecting on the values of dedication and perseverance demonstrated by the founders and academic figures who laid the foundation for the progress of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM. Beyond its ceremonial nature, the pilgrimage also reflects the faculty’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, it aligns with SDG 4: Quality Education, as it serves as a means of learning values, history, and exemplary character for the next generation of academics. Second, the spirit of togetherness in the pilgrimage strengthens SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, through efforts to preserve cemeteries as part of cultural and historical heritage. Third, it embodies SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by fostering respect, solidarity, and appreciation for the services of predecessors as a moral foundation for strengthening academic institutions.
This memorial pilgrimage is not only an expression of gratitude and respect to the predecessors but also a moment to strengthen the unity of the academic community of the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM in preparing for the future while remaining grounded in the values passed down through generations.
