Pharmacy UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from representatives of the University of Otago, New Zealand, on Thursday (April 24) in a meeting aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and exploring the development of broader research collaboration in the field of pharmacy. This meeting became a significant moment in reinforcing the relationship between the two educational institutions, which have already been involved in various forms of collaboration.
Thus far, the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and the University of Otago have carried out several collaborative activities, such as a three-month student exchange program that was participated by students from the International Undergraduate Program (IUP). Additionally, joint supervision for undergraduate students has also been conducted, allowing students to receive academic guidance from both institutions directly. This collaboration has been further strengthened by the joint publication of scientific papers and the involvement of Otago academics as external examiners in the thesis evaluation process of UGM’s undergraduate students.
In this meeting, the University of Otago, represented by Nisa Widyastuti, DDS, GradCert HealthRsch, MSc, MIntDev, PhD, Research Fellow at the Biostatistics Centre, Department of Preventive & Social Medicine, and the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM also discussed strategic steps to expand cooperation, particularly in the field of research. Broader research collaboration was proposed as one of the main agendas, hoping to produce innovations and make significant contributions to the global development of pharmacy science. The Faculty of Pharmacy UGM welcomed this initiative and is committed to continually promoting international cooperation as part of efforts to enhance the quality of education, research, and global academic networking.
The collaboration between the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and the University of Otago not only strengthens international academic networks but also aligns with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through improving the quality of higher education, developing innovative joint research, and fostering sustainable global partnerships.
