
Pharmacy UGM – The Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully hosted an International Webinar titled “Health System and Roles of Pharmacists in Australia and New Zealand” on February 21, 2025. The event was held online and attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM.
The webinar featured two distinguished speakers: Destari Clark, PG.Dip.Pharm, M.Pharm., a Community Pharmacist from Dunedin, New Zealand, and Professor Bandana Saini, B.Pharm, M.Pharm, MBA., Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacy Practice at The University of Sydney, Australia. Both speakers provided in-depth insights into the healthcare systems of their respective countries and the pivotal role of community pharmacists in supporting public health services.
During the discussion and Q&A session, Destari Clark elaborated on how New Zealand’s healthcare system allows pharmacists to play an active role in primary healthcare, including clinical pharmacy services and community health education. Meanwhile, Professor Bandana Saini discussed the strategic role of pharmacists in Australia’s multidisciplinary healthcare system, as well as the challenges and opportunities for pharmacy professionals in the future.
This webinar provided valuable knowledge to UGM Pharmacy students regarding global pharmacy developments. Through interactive discussions, participants gained a broader understanding of healthcare policies, pharmaceutical regulations, and best practices that can be adopted to enhance the role of pharmacists in Indonesia.
The event also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), which emphasizes the importance of access to quality healthcare, SDG 4 (Quality Education), by offering academic and professional insights to students in addressing global health challenges, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals).
